It’s the City’s 50th or Golden Anniversary and on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 the National Recreation and Parks and Association (NRPA) awarded the City of Fairfax Parks and Recreation Department a Gold Medal at the National Congress in Atlanta, Georgia. The City of Fairfax Parks & Recreation Department makes events like the annual Independence Day Parade, Fall Festival, Chocolate Lovers Festival and others, possible. In addition to these events, they are also responsible for maintaining the City’s 31 parks and four rental facilities, as well as coordinating recreational activities for children, adults and seniors. The City of Fairfax has a thriving Arts community, supported and promoted in part by the Commission on the Arts. The Commission supports the Arts by awarding grants to qualifying groups and ensembles, presenting a free performance series in Old Town Fairfax, and providing general promotional support for local Arts groups. Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts
Dedicated to showcasing the very best of the visual and performing arts in the City of Fairfax, Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts is an annual three-week festival comprising artists in and at local venues. Spotlight’s 27th season will kick off on Friday, April 20, with the 2nd Annual Mayor’s Ball at the beautiful Sherwood Center, and run until Sunday, May 6. More
